FUNERALS
AND WAKES
Organising music for a funeral
It isn't easy having the responsibility of organising a Funeral for a loved one's passing.
With all the decisions of choosing the flowers, the order of service and the venue for the wake, music may be the last thing on your mind.
However, music can say all the words that you may not be able to say on the day.
Whether you have chosen a religious service or a celebration of life, music can be arranged to work with what you have planned for the funeral.
DURING A FUNERAL, WHEN CAN I HAVE
MUSIC PERFORMED?
Generally most funerals will have background music played for when the family members and friends are arriving and leaving the service.
If requested, a special song can be arranged for when the coffin is brought into the service and laid down as well as lifted away for the burial.
Is music performed during any other part of the service?
If you are having a religious service, then any chosen hymns can be sung or played as a solo. Alternatively, the harp can be used to accompany or help lead the hymns for the church.
Reading a eulogy can be a very daunting situation for the family or friend who is chosen, in some cases having music played quietly in the background can help support the reader.
If you are planning on having a slideshow of photos then music can be provided to accompany.
If a family member or a friend would like to pay tribute with a song, then the harp can be arranged to accompany them.
MUSIC DURING
THE WAKE
Once you have reached the wake, the hardest part of the day has been done. Most guests will find this a time to catch up with family and friends that they may have not seen in a while. Whereas others may not feel like they want to talk to anyone just yet. Having music in the background of a wake can help lighten up the atmosphere. You can create a playlist of songs which hold memories of the loved ones life.
Special touches:
Not every funeral is planned the same, especially when there are last wishes to be upheld. Whether you are wanting a more traditional funeral with a respectful black attire or a colourful celebration of life, both can be arranged prior to the date.
If requested, the special song that was specifically chosen during the service can be recorded and sent to the family members. This can then be used to be placed over a memorial video or photo slide as a keepsake.

The responsibility of finding a soloist at short notice to sing at the funeral of a very dear friend was somewhat daunting. It was a difficult time but you showed great understanding and sensitivity. Thank you for your beautiful rendition of Panis Angelicus and Ave Maria which my friend had specifically requested before she died. You showed great empathy throughout the Service, unobtrusively waiting for the moment to sing. Thank you for fulfilling my friend's wishes so perfectly. It meant so much to the family and to all of us

Lizzy responded promptly to our last minute request, communication was excellent and she completely fulfilled the brief, even though we wanted something she was unfamiliar with. She even offered to supply a recording as a keepsake. She is extremely talented, she plays and sings beautifully. I would not hesitate to recommend her.

I just wanted to extend my special thanks for your recital yesterday at my mum’s funeral.
The music was beautiful and added such a special touch to the service - it was just what we had hoped for. We have had lots of compliments from our guests too.
With much appreciation
